TOCC Human Rights and Responsibilities

Tohono O’odham Community College (TOCC) is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination for all students, employees, program participants, and visitors. In accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, TOCC does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, or disability in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, employment practices, or any other College-administered program or activity.

At TOCC, we are intentional about how we talk about these protections. TOCC is intentional about also understanding civil rights protections as human rights and responsibilities that TOCC holds toward its students, employees, program participants, and community members.

This understanding reflects the O’odham Himdag (way of life), and our values of T-Apedag (wellness), T-Pi:k Elida (respect), and I-We:mta (working together) that guides how our College treats one another, resolves concerns, and builds inclusive programs and services.

TOCC upholds these commitments through a range of ongoing practices, including:

  • Identified human rights and responsibilities point of contact.
  • Provision of regular human rights and responsibilities training, as well as relevant policy and procedure updates, at monthly all-staff meetings.
  • Providing reasonable accommodations, according to the ADA, for all. TOCC’s ADA process allows students, employees, visitors, and program participants alike, to request accommodations, and receive reasonable assistance from TOCC within the defined timeframe.
  • Inclusion of nondiscrimination assurances with 3rd party vendors.
  • All TOCC publications include human rights and responsibilities statement.
  • Annual TOCC internal compliance report, including assessment of confidential, voluntary, and aggregated demographic data collected for TOCC’s continuous quality improvement efforts. *
